Repairs to the Blue Lagoon access point - June 2001

Regular visitors to the Blue Lagoon will have seen that we have improved access to the water.   The high winds and high water level (caused by a blocked drain) over the winter months had caused serious erosion around the entry point. The exposed bricks were unpleasant to walk or fall on and the steep slope caused several (fortunately minor) slips. Earlier in the year, the Committee agreed to see what could be done.

In consultation with the council a plan for the new entry ramp was agreed.  The plan took into account the surrounding nature reserve as well as the special needs of divers (staggering out of the water laden with heavy kit).

On a Saturday in early June, the work took place.  A few club members, ably assisted by a JCB, dumper truck and road roller took just a few hours to convert the previous craggy, slippery access into the current smooth slope.
